Jodi Picoult's The Pact: a searing adventure where nothing is secret

Jodi Picoult’s novel The Pact will make your head spin and your heart hurt. The setting and the situation follow a common pattern for the author- the book follows the aftermath of a shocking and disturbing incident through the perspectives of law enforcement officers, legal advisers, concerned and confused relatives with a heavy load of family drama to unpack, and of course, the central character involved in an alleged crime. As always, each character has a story only he can tell. The Pact swerves through the intertwined pasts of two families and the conflicted present of division, grief, and fear. The reader will search through the memories, dreams, and lies of each member of the Gold and Harte households, finding with each revelation another catalyst for the death of a beloved daughter. As prosecutors illuminate more damning evidence, each character is implicated in the destruction of her life, yet their individual denial and strained relationships spiral into a riveting tale of fear and love. Nobody’s secrets are safe.
