Mr. Neveu is the best Latin teacher in all of Orchard Park. He is also the only Latin teacher in Orchard Park. Neveu educates kids from grade 8 to grade 12 on the wonders of Latin and also takes part in Latin-related activities. The language of Latin may be dead, but Neveu keeps its spirit alive.
Q: How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
A: I would say I’m a Latin teacher who’s married to Lynne Neveu.
Q: What did you eat for lunch today?
A: I had a turkey sandwich, pop chips, a yogurt (greek), a cheese snack, and a sugar-free black cherry jello cup.
Q: Summer or winter?
A: Winter. Ah–no, summer
Q: What’s your SubWay order?
A: Sweet onion chicken teriyaki.
Q: Are you happy?
A: Yes.
Q: What would make you happier?
A: More time with my wife and cat.
Q: What does being a teacher mean to you?
A: I like working with young people and sharing knowledge.
Q: Who was your favorite teacher in high school?
A: Mrs. Sadlon, my Latin teacher.
Q: If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?
A: A lawyer. That’s my backup career if the Latin program implodes
Q: Who’s your teacher BFF?
A: Well, I have a lunch crew. That’s [Mrs.] Braun and [Mrs.] Specht.
Q: Is it nice being the only Latin teacher?
A: It’s super nice; though, sometimes it’s a lot of work. I get to do what I want, though.
Q: Who’s your favorite Latin character?
A: Probably Sextus is my favorite character because he’s the most interesting.
Q: What’s your favorite nickname students have given you?
A: I know my least favorite…. But I used one from a few years back, P.Nevz, as my Apple tag.
Q: What’s your favorite year you’ve ever taught?
A: Every year sorta feels like the best year because every year I have my fourth and fifth year students, so we have this nice bond.
Q: What’s the worst crime you’ve ever committed (that you can admit to here)?
A: Speeding. 13 over the limit. I was actually driving 14 over today.
Q: What’s the best book you’ve ever read?
A: Absalom, Absalom! By William Faulkner.
Q: What person do you admire most?
A: Lynne Neveu.
Q: If you could live in any fictional place, where would it be?
A: I think, like, the Dr. Who universe would probably be very fun. The others, like Game of Thrones or Star Wars, would be too dangerous. Dr. Who is fun and whimsy.
Q: How do you want to die and at what age?
A: I would absolutely love to die in my sleep. It just seems like absolutely the best way to die. And, I would say 88.
Q: If you were to die, what would you want to reincarnate as?
A: Can it be an extremely rich, successful, super famous athlete?
Q: What’s your motto?
A: “Living well is the best revenge.” But I’m not interested in revenge… I’m just interested in living well.
