What are you thankful for? Gratitude is when you give thanks for what you have been given, and we should give thanks for our food, family, and gifts. Giving thanks, especially during a time of giving, is essential to be a kind person. Thanksgiving is a time of thankfulness–a time when people should be most thankful.
Food contains nutrients, which are substances that are essential for the body’s development. We need food to live and that is why we should be thankful for it–without it we would not be able to be alive. Food is obviously needed to live, but when it is thoughtfully given and prepared, like at Thanksgiving, people find it even easier to appreciate it more.
“Food is very important…food is seen as important, not only for survival, but also for holidays where people come together and eat. They share experiences, feelings, and memories from the past while making new experiences, memories, relationships, and connections,” said freshman Elliott Rera.
We should be thankful for many things and family is one of those things. Family is obviously important, and when you are loved, you should love back, saying ‘I love you.’
Family offers love and safety unconditionally. “Family is important because they are there for support during the hard times and are people who celebrate during the good times. It is about unconditional love with each other. You should be thankful for it because they are always there for you, no matter what,” said friend, Evelyn Hammond.
Gifts are also among the things we should be thankful for. We give gifts to make people feel good; the giver feels satisfied and accomplished, while the receiver is overjoyed. Gifts are also special because they bring people together and show a person’s love and devotion.
“Gifts are special because a lot of the time there is a deeper meaning behind them. Gifts don’t have to be material things, though. They can also be things that people give you to tell you that they’re grateful for you. You should always cherish gifts because even though it may not always seem like it, there is oftentimes a deeper meaning behind the giving of one,” offers Ella Wahowski, freshman.
Thanksgiving, the time of year to be grateful for things you have and are given. People need food to survive; therefore, they should be thankful for it. Families love each other; therefore, you should love your family. Gifts are special and should be appreciated. Be grateful for everything. Give thanks this holiday season–and always!
