The Quaker Marching Band (QMB), led by Mr. Brignone and Mr. Bean, has brought home another win. Saturday, Sept. 14, QMB headed to Hilton High School in Rochester to compete in one of its five competitions this season.
“I think we played significantly better than previous performances. Other than some fine-tuning, I think we did fantastic,” said trumpeter Anderson Byrd when asked about his thoughts on the band’s performance.
Coming home with the win is never easy, but the battle between 9 other schools makes this win even more important.
“Our main competitors were Greece and West Seneca in the LS2 division, though we always want to outperform everyone,” said Ben Kasprowicz when asked about who their biggest competition is. The strict judging for each performance makes the win even more difficult to achieve. Each performance has seven judges, paying attention to different things in the performance that are key to a successful show.
Over the last several years, the band has slowly grown and improved, winning more competitions, and making for a bright future for QMB.
“I’m really excited and we’ve had a good start, but we know the competition is tight and we look to keep improving,” said Marching Band director Mr. Brignone when his view on the future of QMB.
The band’s five-song show is performed all fall, slowly being improved and worked on as the season goes on. The show is named “Fire in the hole! A coal miners story” about the struggle of working in a coal mine. Considering it was the band’s first time performing this show in competition, coming home with the win is huge.
Students can see QMB perform at every home football game, as well as at a marching band show here at the school on October 19th when QMB will be performing for parents and students.
