The start of the 2024-2025 wrestling season brings two new varsity coaches, Coach Joe Glinsky and Coach Drew Hull.
Just last season, after many years of coaching, Coach Teal stepped down from the head coaching position, as did his assistants, Coach Higgins and Coach Taylor. The former coach of the Orchard Park youth team, Coach Glinsky, will be stepping up to fill the shoes of Coach Teal. He will be accompanied by Assistant Coach Hull.
Coach Glinsky is coming to a team that just came off a 10-9 season. The team includes 3 returning Section VI qualifiers Dan Campbell, Evan Dorsheimer, and Aidan Rodriguez. The team also includes multiple placers at the Class AA tournament, with a majority of the weight classes having returning members who placed, as well. With the experience of the team, Coach Glinsky is going into a bright first season as head coach.
The new coaches bring a lot of excitement to the team and the new season.
“I’ve heard great things about the new coach. I’m excited to see what he brings and how he can help us get to the next level,” said senior Evan Dorsheimer.
Some wrestlers, such as senior Jacob Blamowski, are more concerned with how the new coach will impact the team’s usual practice routines: “I’m curious how practice will be run with Coach Joe. I’m hoping he’ll challenge us the way Coach Teal was able to.”
Many are already preparing for this upcoming season at preseason wrestling camps. However, the new leadership brings a certain level of uncertainty: “I don’t know much about him. I’ve only met him a handful of times, but I’m excited to see what he’ll be able to bring to the team,” said Sophomore Jeremy Buchanan.
The arrival of the new coaching staff marks a new beginning for the Orchard Park wrestling team. The team has a real sense of excitement and hope for the new season with an already-strong foundation and coaches eager to strengthen the team and leave their mark Division. But for now, the Quakers must remain patient and be ready for changes on the horizon.
