Freaky Friday is a new musical based on the 1972 novel written by Mary Rodgers and on the remake of the popular Disney movie, both of the same name. It is a story of an exhausted mother and her teen daughter swapping bodies, having only one day to resolve their conflicts. It’s a touching, humorous, and heartfelt reworking of the American classic.
Choreographer Mrs. Quinn-Tyrpa described the show’s choreography as “fresh, fun, and funky.” She notes that it features mostly jazz numbers and differs from previous musicals with fewer big group numbers. “It’s something fun I get to do with the students that’s not in a classroom,” Quinn-Tyrpa added.
Senior Ella Pirrami shared her excitement for the show: “I want to support a couple of my best friends and get them flowers,” Pirrami said. Having never attended a musical before, she sees this as an opportunity to support her friends through this common high school experience.
Freshman Adrianna Roberts also shared that she will be attending on Friday with her friend Rachel Mulawka (also a freshman). “I liked the original version of the movie and can’t wait to see it in musical form,” Roberts said. Having only attended OPMS musicals, she sees this as an opportunity to “get [her] freak on,” she said in a giggling manner.
Sophomore Elizabeth Roberts expressed her excitement for the production and shared that she would be going alone on Friday and sitting in the balcony.
The fresh, new musical Freaky Friday will run Thursday, March 13 to Sunday, March 16. Get your tickets before they sell out. It will be a musical to remember.
