Orchard Park Boys’ tennis team tryouts were held at Southtowns Tennis Center at 3 p.m. on March 18. Head coach Terrence McMahon observed the talent in an attempt to put together a dominant team.
The Orchard Park tennis team seems to have a great atmosphere with a good combination of fun and a serious attitude. Senior Matt Wall is an example of the players’ positive feelings about the team. He proves there is not too much tension throughout the group and solid chemistry between each other.
“Well to me, tennis hasn’t really been about the sport, more so about the people I’ve played with,” explained Wall. “So as I enter my final season I really don’t care how it ends; I’m going to play with my friends, and I’m going to have fun doing so, so I’m already getting what I want from the sport.”
However, the talent the team has also brings firm intent to finish the season strong with high aspirations for their final destination. Junior Brandon DeJong displayed his confidence along with his eagerness to start competition even before tryouts began.
“I’m excited to get back to playing tennis daily again and to hopefully make a deep playoff run this year,” said DeJong.
Senior and veteran player Callum DeBroka agreed.
“We should probably sweep the league. If we do lose it will be to Clarence. And we will probably go far in Sectionals…,” predicted DeBroka.
