Many see the season of spring as a chapter of new beginnings. As the flowers are blooming, the weather is warming up, and that winter slump is coming to an end, the beginning of spring is a chance for us to make efforts to change for the better. Becoming the best version of yourself is crucial to overall success in life, showing its importance for discussion. To get ideas on how to better ourselves, we talked with teachers and students for their insight:
Q: What does spring mean to you?
Mrs. Bastedo: Spring is a time to wake up from wintering. Not only does the earth enter into a slumber, but our bodies slow down, craving candlelight, warm teas, and cozy nights in. As the days get longer and the equinox arrives, we, too, dust off our walking shoes and sunglasses, taking in every inch of sunlight we’ve forgotten we’ve missed so dearly.
Cheyenne S: A chance to be with my friends in an outside environment.
Mr. Hunter: To me, spring means gratitude. Spring has an abundance of opportunities, and a chance to leave the hardships of winter behind.
Q:What spring activities to you participate in to better yourself this season?
Leighten N: I play field hockey, it makes me really happy.
Mrs. Bastedo: I celebrate the coming of spring each year by starting my gardens! Whether I’m sowing seeds indoors for a later planting date or getting those first radishes and potatoes in the ground, I’m reminded that an abundant harvest is just a few months away.
Cheyenne S: I play basketball and read a lot more, because I feel like I have more time.
Q: Do you participate in spring cleaning? If so, why?
Mrs. Bastedo: I do spring clean! We open the windows and our minds, air out the rugs and our souls, power wash away the salt and darkness, and welcome the new year!
Leighten N: Yes, because it gives me a fresh new start and it makes me feel better about myself.
Mr. Hunter: I am definitely a “spring cleaner.” Spring cleaning is a chance to wash away any reminder of winter, and allows us to enjoy everything the nicer weather has to offer.
